While at a yoga retreat at Lake Atitlan, a few of us hired Pedro, a local birdwatching guide. He was amazing! Incredibly knowledgeable and lightning quick at spotting birds. He could identify by sound or quick flyover, and in no time had his scope set up so we could view it up close. I loved how excited he got over every bird! He was kind and gracious to answer all of our questions. We learned he owns Voltan Adventures, so we asked if we could hire him again another day. Two days later, we went birdwatching with his brother, Isaias, at Los Tarrales Natural Reserve. Everything was arranged for us, from the private boat to the private shuttle. Isaias was equally incredible at birdwatching and sent us the list of observed birds so we could easily enter them into eBird. Because of these two wonderful guides, I was able to log 92 species in 6 days -- 70 of which were lifers to me! I cannot recommend Voltan Adventures enough!!

Absolutely fantastic kayak & hike trip around beautiful Lake Atitlan with Domingo from Voltan Adventures. We booked a private tour for our family of 4 with 2 children aged 12 & 14. Brilliant time kayaking and swimming plus hike along the lake. Domingo our guide was fantastic - super informative about the lake & the flora and fauna, very relaxed and great company. This trip also included a boat ride to visit some of the local villages. Colourful San Juan La Laguna was a real highlight too. 100% recommend this brilliant local business

Voltan Adventures help us create memories for our family that we will be talking about for years to come. I found this tour company from a google search and with in a matter of minutes I had talked to Pedro and he had my whole itinerary arranged. From airport pick up to a gastro history tour of Antigua to a hike up Pacaya, visiting Iximche, and kayaking and cooking lesson in Lake Atitlan, everything was amazing. Our guide Chay was kind and well planned. I can’t say enough! We will definitely be back again.

Good tours. The guides were always on time and super helpful. We did a tour of a couple towns and a sunrise hike as alternative to Indian Nose. Both trips were well organized and interesting. Juan Carlos was very knowledgeable and friendly.

My mom and I spent a fun day at the market in Chichi with Isaias as our guide and with our driver Ricardo. The ride from Panajachel to Chichi took almost 2 hours but was extremely comfortable and smooth. Ricardo is an excellent driver and the SUV looked brand new and super clean.
The market is quite large and it was so much easier navigating through it with Isaias instead of trying to do so on our own. As we approached the center of the town, Isaias noticed that a Mayan procession was getting underway and we were able to follow it to the church where the Mayan brotherhood made their offerings. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we would have never found this on our own.
Isaias is extremely knowledgeable about the ancient and modern Mayan culture. It is apparent that he loves Guatemala, its nature, animals, and people. Both Isaias and Ricardo were fun to be with and we will definitely ask for both of them again on our next visit to Guatemala.
We also went with Isaias to several towns on Lake Atitlan. Rene, the captain of the boat did a great job and they were both very patient and helpful while we took our time shopping at the many art galleries, textile co-operatives, ceramic workshops, and other stores.
My mom and I only had a few hours in Guatemala City before our return back to the US. We knew that it wouldn’t be enough time to thoroughly visit the city but we wanted to get an overall feel for it. Well, we did! Our guide Vinicio and driver Josue made our short time in Guatemala City unforgettable. They both have really fun personalities and we got a great overview and history of the city while having a great time. Vinicio is a very experienced and knowledgeable guide that was able to answer all of the questions we had. We were so fortunate that Josue stopped on the side of the road just before we got to the airport so that we could see the active volcano erupt.

In March 2019 I for the first time visited Guatemala. Voltan adventures had arranged a 2-week itinerary based on my wish list of things to see and supplied a car, driver and guide; this is of course a luxurious arrangement. I was met by a fabulous young Mayan nature guide, who not only knew animals and plants, but also showed and explained to me many beautiful cultural aspects of Mayan culture. Through him I met many local people and could visit remote villages and sampled much tasty local food. It was by necessity somewhat of a whirlwind trip. I was impressed by the flexibility by which the itinerary could be adjusted. I traveled in South America dozens of times over a 50-year period; this trip was among the most enjoyable and satisfying.

We had an excellent tour with Pedro from Voltan Adventures at Lake Atitlan. He guided us on a tour through San Juan La Laguna and we learned so much about the art, history and culture of the town and Guatemala. He spoke perfect English and was very knowledgeable in so many areas. He even extended the tour and, on a whim, took us on a coffee tour where we learned that Guatemala has the best coffee. It was a truly wonderful time and when I return to Guatemala, I will definitely reach out to Voltan Adventures again. For a full review of my experience, check out my blog at Travel Pockets. We spent two days hiking around Lake Atilan with our wonderful guide and touring some of the villages. It was wonderful! Our guide spoke very fluent English and organized everything perfectly. We learned a lot about the local culture, ate some wonderful food, and hiked really hard. Could not recommend this operator more highly.

I have travelled extensively throughout the world and don't often leave reviews but our several tours with Domingo as our guide were second to none. He was by far the best travel guide I have experienced. He spoke very fluent English and had a wealth of knowledge about all parts we travelled to around Lake Atitlan, Chichicastenango, Iximche and Antigua. He was always prompt, friendly, caring and never rushed us. I highly recommend and hope to be back soon!

I have been a chaperone for trips to Guatemala for high school students for three years. Each experience has been amazing. Voltan Adventures puts an emphasis on cultural exchange and building relationships in a beautiful country with a rich history. Pedro and his staff are friendly and knowledgable. It makes a great trip because there are so many ways you can connect the trip to school curriculum, current and past events-from biology, astronomy, ancient cultures, history and politics. Guate host a rich biodiversity and three UNISCO World Heritage sites. I have taken an EcoTourism trip that helped students to make connections between culture and the environment. We looked at what factors such as access to education and health care and how that created opportunities or barriers to conserving wildlife and protecting water, land and air quality. We were able to explore the differences between Latino and Mayan cultures and how they interact with the environment. I have also taken two global health field trips in which we explored the health care and education system in Guate and how that impacted different groups of people unequally. I highly recommend taking students to the open air markets, Semuc Champey, Lake Atitlan and Santa Cruz, Tikal (Mayan Ruins) and the most spectacular experience is Samaña Santa in Antiqua (during Easter). There are so many places of significance to explore that you could easily stay for several weeks and still not be ready to go home. My students have told me it was one of the most influential and significant high school experiences they had. Additionally, I met people who are from Guatemala in the United States frequently and they are always excited that I know their country and we can talk about our experiences.
