The science museum itself is fine - lots of stuff for kids to do, but really not for adults. However, the submarine is fantastic! Highly recommended.
Just be aware that everyone needs to be able to step *unaided* through a couple of small doors onboard. That means little kids have to be able to do it themselves. There's a practice door inside the museum and the staff will check that everyone can handle it. A little girl in our tour group was very close to not being allowed to go, but all the other kids in our group worked together to encourage her.

It was just okay honestly. It was PACKED when we were there and it took 20 minutes just to find a parking spot. It was difficult to experience the exhibits because it was a literal zoo of people there. I had also hoped that the planetarium or theater would help included in admission.

We went to OMSI today for the Trex exhibit and were quite excited to do so since i am a big dino fan. Immediately upon arrival there is an animatronic trex out side which was pretty cool. We headed into the exhibit and were quite pleased upon entering the exhibit but, that quickly changed.. immediately during the first exhibit, which is a projection animation of Portland with dinosaurs running through the streets, about 5 children were intentionally hitting the screen, making it shake, causing the effect and animation to be lost. We waited for those children to pass. They did but yet a larger group of elementary to middle school children came through, doing the same thing. Apparently the teachers, aids and chaperones didn’t feel it was important to stop the children from ruining the exhibit for everyone. We continued in to the ground floor main exhibit. Again, children were SCREECHING and YELLING also playing tag throughout the room. They were rudely pushing us out of the way or stepping straight in front of us. Now, they’re kids, i DO NOT blame the kids, i blame the multiple adults accompanying the kids that were too busy talking with each other than minding the kids. I am blaming OMSI for this because there we only about 4 OMSI people working within the two story exhibit. it is OMSI’s responsibility to be sure that EVERYONE can enjoy the exhibits. We paid $45 for two tickets, and $8 for parking and we could hardly enjoy anything. This is our second trip to omsi this year and the exact same thing happened last time. OMSI needs to have a more visible presence in these exhibits because clearly these school chaperones aren’t going to help. I am pretty fed up and won’t be going back to OMSI any time soon despite wanting to go back often. Paying over $50 to go isn’t worth it when you can’t enjoy the exhibits, no matter how patient you try to be.

If you like dinosaurs, don't miss the T-Rex exhibit at OMSI! A fun and interesting exhibit for dinosaur lovers of all ages, kids and adults alike! And while you are there, don't miss out on the tour of the submarine! The submarine experience is excellent!

A couple exhibits are very interesting. But the planetarium shows are terrible. Navajo skies is like something from the 1980s. There are technical inaccuracies, the dialogue is downright ridiculously insulting, and none of the planetarium shows are disabled accessible. The staff could not be more friendly and helpful. They recommended using Google live transcribe, which works sometimes, but with all of the faux accents and attempts at Navajo language, the transcription can range from hilarious to vulgar.
The best exhibits are the 1990s fetus progress through gestation exhibit and the paleontology.
Once again, I can't say enough about the staff. But there's no justification to charge admission for the planetarium shows. It's not a planetarium it's a movie theater.

I visited OSMI the first time a couple weeks ago. My husband and I, both seniors, enjoyed it. We spent about 90 minutes walking through the museum, watched a starry night presentation, and then a laser light one. Finally had a coffee before returning home. We decided to buy a season pass so we could bring our kids and grandkids. We are looking forward to visiting again.
The reason for four stars is if you are paying separately for the entrance fee, then planetarium show(s), and maybe a sub tour, you can easily spend close to $200 for the day for a family of 4. That seems pricey for what you are getting. That is why we decided to buy a membership.

Amazing learning center. As a grown man visiting alone, I enjoyed so much. There are many interactive exhibits, including the puzzles! I spent 30 minutes trying different puzzles and they were so fun. The planetarium exhibition requires additional fee, but it was informative and immersive.

Great museum covering a broad range of topics. There are lots of interactive exhibits for kids to enjoy and learn by experiencing things. The highlight of the museum is the Blueback Submarine docked in the river and taking a tour of it is highly recommended. You can easily spend an entire day here.

This is a wonderful place to take the kids. Unfortunately, we were a couple and found ourselves in child's playland of science. I think the only adult thing to see and do was the sub. We were visiting from Chicago and because we are members there, we get access to museums across the country. We decided to check it out and I wanted to see what the Orca exhibit was all about. Turns out it was just a film and the film was only played once maybe twice a day and we missed it. We walked upstairs, outside, and around every corner and got the gist. If you're a couple or a in town to visit this is meant more for families with small children. I don't think our teenager would have been interested in many of the activities beyond just seeing what it does. (You know the 2.5 second time span of teens now) Great way to keep the kids entertained for a couple of hours.

We travel a distance to go to this place and it was worth the drive and value for the money. We arrived around 10 am and left at 4 pm. I have a 5 year old who completely immersed himself in the variety of labs, play area and the exhibits. I also had a great time in the chemistry lab with him.

Will kids 17 and 14 find this interesting?
Scritta in data 18 ottobre 2017
Yes. If there is an interest in the natural world. Very hands on.

Not cheap! Cost depends on which of many options (movies, submarine, special exhibits,...) you choose.

We are driving from Canada to San Diego and I want to stop here with the kids. We will be in an RV, looking at google maps, there is absolutely no space to park an RV and I can't find any answers on the web. Does anyone know if there is RV parking or if taking up multiple spaces (5) is an issue? We would be going on a Sunday in the fall
Scritta in data 7 marzo 2017
Hi there, I work at OMSI and answer your question: we have RV parking and you can stay in our lot for one night. We ask that you don't take up 5 spots in our parking lot. Our facilities manager is more than happy to coordinate directly with you as your trip gets closer. Please send me an email at jfarmer@omsi.edu so I can connect you with him. We're so excited you're coming all the way down here to visit us! Thanks again.
