Very interesting tour. The civil war graffiti was incredible. Mostly done over two weeks while a German American unit from Wisconsin/Michigan was stationed there. If you have a chance to visit you should. Our volunteer tour guide was knowledgeable and it was all very interesting.

My husband, friend and I had a really informative tour with a Volunteer Tour Guide on 8/10/22 (I wish I remembered his name, but he was very knowledgeable and informative). Learning about the messages that the Civil War soldiers wrote on the walls at Blenheim was really interesting and made me think about the commonality of today with "tagging" to let people know the the tagger (?) was there. I recommend going!

This is unique and fascinating experience. Well, well worth a visit even for those with no great interest in the civil war.

My husband and I have lived in the DMV area for 30 years and thought we’d covered most of the Civil War sites but are always looking for more.
The Blenheim estate is a hidden gem in an area to which we will return to visit other related buildings on the Fairfax Graffiti Trail. It was only a 40 minute drive from Silver Spring and the perfect warm, sunny day to spend both outside and inside the Greek Revival 1859 brick farm house built by War of 1812 veteran Capt. Rezin Samuel Willcoxon.
From the moment we entered the Visitors’/Interpretive Center, Ruth welcomed us warmly and walked us through the exhibits prior to our 1 pm tour.
Our guide Scott then took us on a colorful, well-informed and fascinating journey back in time to the home’s construction, occupancy and up until the last Wilcoxon family member died and the estate was sold to the City of Fairfax in 1999.
During the Civil War, Union soldiers camped on the grounds surrounding the house, utilizing it as part of a reserve hospital system. As a result, more than 115 of these soldiers inscribed words and pictures on the first and second floor walls, as well as the attic of the house. Much of the original inscriptions are visible today and others, recreated in a Interpretive Center room.
This is a must see treasure.

During the Civil War, soldiers on both sides of the conflict were desperate to find houses that could serve as places where soldiers could convalesce. Blenheim served that purpose during the war. During the restoration, workers found several examples of graffiti written by the soldiers while recovering from wounds while fighting at the First and Second Battles of Manassas. Those writings from the soldiers and other artifacts found locally can be seen here. Blenheim also hosts talks by local historians and authors on books about local history. I highly recommend making this a stop on your trip to northern Virginia.

To be up front I’m not a Civil War buff, but I was looking for something to do with my daughter on a beautiful Saturday. History Day was taking place at historic Blenheim so I decided to go. I took a tour of the house and it was much more interesting than I thought it would be. The graffiti left by Union soldiers was kind of cool to see. They also have a museum on the grounds that goes into more detail about the location and its history. I didn’t really read many of the displays because I had a child with me, but if you’re into history you would probably enjoy it.

We spent a couple of hours here, led by the volunteer host. Learn about the 2 houses built on same site. The tour we took Fridays at 1pm only, was very good - highly recommend as you get to tour the 1st floor as renovation is happening. The tour also included some of the surrounding grounds including the graveyard.
Had a great time learning about the soldier boys who took over the place during the civil war.

A most interesting and enjoyable tour by our church couples club. Staff were most helpful in arranging our after-hours group tour and efficiently handled our group of 34. This is a most interesting exhibit of civil war graffiti left on the walls by union soldiers who convalesced here during the civil war.

We enjoyed visiting this beautiful historic home and the well preserved "wall graffiti" of soldier signatures from the civil war
