I was little bit worried, when I made the booking in Hayat Plaza. as I had read the review made by guest who had stayed there in November 2009. I find the views expressed there are exagareted. I had been given a room in the Corinche side and I was astonished with the view thru the window, a blend of both water and the mountains which gives a good picturesque of Ras Al Khaimah. Eventhough the hotel doesn't gives an impression from outside the interiors are well furnished and lighted. We had food from both the restaurants in the hotel. The food were good in both but a little bit expensvie with the thai restaurant. During our stay we had requested for another room for one of my business collegue but was not available as the hotel was fully occupied. From my stay and experience in the hotel made me to understand and conclude that this hotel is priced average and gives value for your money.

We were supposed to stay here for two weeks but moved out after five days as we just could not stand it any longer :)
The upside: The rooms are big, spacious and most of the time well serviced by very nice room service staff.
The downsides:
The downstairs club and kareoke bar is open until 3am, 7 days a week, and the construction of the building ensures that everyone in every room (we tried two) can hear exactly what song is being abused at stage (most popular was Shakira "hips don't lie", sung by a guy with strong accent, and a 2.55 last chance favourite was Wet Wet Wet "Love is all around"). Even with earplugs it was hard to get any sleep, because of the vibrations from the base.
The breakfast buffee is something of the worst I have ever experienced, with minimal choice, old dry food even though we ate at 7am (so veges, bread etc obviously cut up the night before), having to wait for 20 mins plus to have even the most basic stuff filled up (eggs etc). It is served in an almost underground cave-like restaurant, and it's not unusal that the staff starts swabbing the floors in the middle of your meal so do bring water-resistant shoes. Most mornings we only went down to grab a cup of tea before heading out for breakfast, and at the end of our stay we are hit with a 20dhs/day and person charge - despite being told when moving in that the breakfast is included in the price!
We used the hotel's laundry service twice. The first time they lost a pair of our pants (which they couldn't find, but luckily I happened to find them later, randomly hanging under the stairs) and the second time they lost a pair of socks, which we never saw again. Enquiring about this when checking out we were told that it was not the hotel's fault as they send the laundry to another agent, and it must have been them who lost it!
I was also quite upset by the porno channels that were readily available on the TV - despite porn being illegal in the UAE (even the Internet is censored from it). This would not really have bothered me though, if it was organised so that I could just choose not to look on that specific sector, but these channels are all mixed up in between CNN and children's channels, which I think is very unsuitable (meaning that if I had kids with me who looked at TV and they happened to push the channel up button instead of the volume up they'd see some naked lady getting whipped over the sofa... Just lovely). We complained but no results.
Also, don't ask for tourist information from the front desk. For example we asked what time the market opened and were told 2pm, when in reality nothing in the area opened until 4pm so we had to take another taxi to get out of the 38 degree heat and go back in a couple of hours.
I could go on and on with other small stuff, but basically this was an overall terrible experience for us. We choose the hotel as it was cheap and central, but my recommendation after doing better research would be to stay at the much more modern City Hotel instead.
We paid 250dhs/night at Hayat Plaza, plus 40dhs for breakfast for two, so 290/night. At the city hotel just across the bridge, next to Manar Mall, we paid 300dhs including a lovely breakfast buffee (fresh fruits, juice, man making eggs of your choice etc) with view over the creek.
