We are very sorry that our place didn’t meet your expectations and that you were disappointed in your stay here. Our rooms (you booked the budget ones which are small and cheap) are all different, quirky and with varying views of the valley. Waterfalls Homestay has a strict ecological and environmental policy and unlike so many guest houses in Ella, we will not cut down the trees and clear the jungle simply to give a tourist a view from their room. Trees are so important for the local wildlife, birds, monkeys and giant squirrels, and it is such a shame that you were unable to appreciate all that a view thru trees has to offer. Yes, we agree, the road is bad, (as is stated clearly on our website), but still the majority of vehicles are able to deliver their guests safely to their guest houses (of which there are more than 40 on Waterfall Road), unfortunately, your driver wasn’t one of them, which meant you needed 2 tuktuks (600 rupees, just over 3 Euros ) to get you back to town with your luggage, I appreciate that this was an extra expense that you had not budgeted for. However, I don’t understand your comment about not being able to walk into Ella to access the many restaurant and café options available there? You appeared very capable and the weather has been wonderful…. everyone walks into town, the road is safe and very “walkable” and only 1.5 Kms. You chose not to walk, it is not impossible as stated in your review. Yes, there are literally 100’s of accommodation options in Ella that offer “views” but we are more than just a “view” we are a home away from home, as is stated repeatedly by many Trip Advisor reviewers. Ultimately, we hope that your comments have helped future visitors to Ella when making a decision of where to stay. Matching expectations and making informed decisions and ultimately choosing the accommodation that suits you best makes everyone happy! Sorry again that you were unhappy with your experience here, we are not every one’s cup of tea, (thank goodness!)
